Britney Spears Backstage after the 2008 VMAs

Exactly a year after losing the VMAs with a questionable performance, Britney was back with a vengeance and this time it was for her music. Britney’s video for the song Piece of Me pick up as many as 3 awards including Video of the Year which was a first for her.

Media outlets around the net are raving about her comeback writing:
MTV.com: “The 25th annual MTV Video Music Awards were full of those kinds of first, but perhaps the one people were looking forward to the most was the first VMA appearance by Spears since last year’s notorious onstage debacle. And, to the delight of her fans, Spears knocked it out of the park, opening the show by repeatedly turning down some not-so-slick advances from “Superbad” funnyman Jonah Hill. Showing off some of her “How I Met Your Mother” comedy chops, Spears then shimmied to the stage, looking amazing in a silver, shimmering flapper dress, and welcomed the crowd to the show.”

People Magazine: “The pop star made a triumphant return to MTV’s Video Music Awards, winning three Moonman, including the night’s big honor, video of the year, for her hit “Piece Of Me…” She looked a little nervous at first, but proved to be in fighting form in a vintage silver Versace mini-dress.”

Billboard: “Britney Spears returned to the MTV Video Music Awards in a major way tonight (Sept. 7) in Los Angeles, getting the last laugh after a disastrous 2007 appearance by winning the first three awards of her career: female video, pop video and video of the year for “Piece of Me..” she was a picture of professionalism and poise this time around, as she introduced the show and appeared in a comedic pre-show sketch with actor Jonah Hill.”

E!: “The red carpet of the Video Music Awards was its own kind of eye-popping spectacle, but during the show I couldn’t take my eyes off Britney Spears… She looked fab, kept it together and seems like she’s getting her career back on the good foot.”

Yahoo: “The pop singer, whose career has been overshadowed in recent years by a litany of personal woes, took home the awards for video of the year, best pop video and best female video, all for the tune “Piece of Me…” But the tabloid target seems to have avoided any calamities in recent months. While she puts her life back together, her ex-husband has full custody of their two sons, and her father and a lawyer have taken control of her business affairs.”

Following a late night out at the MTV Video Music Awards, Vanessa Hudgens was spotted being dropped off at her parent’s house by boyfriend Zac Efron on Monday morning (September 8).

After getting cleaned up, the “High School Musical” hottie and her family carried their bags as they left the house - getting dropped off at LAX Airport for a departing flight.

It was a big night for the girls of “The Hills”, as both Lauren Conrad and Audrina Patridge were on-hand for the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards - along with the parties that followed.

While on the red carpet, LC was asked which star had the best style, to which she replied, “I love Rihanna’s style. She takes a lot of chances.” And her favorite guy? None other than Rihanna’s R&B singing beau Chris Brown, as Miss Conrad tells: “I love Chris Brown!”

When it comes to VMA’s, Britney have had a handful of performances in the past decade some more memorable, others less memorable but following last year’s train wreck people seem to only remember the bad one and forget the good.

Well, Britney may have another shot at making things better and hitting the red carpet as a deserving artist in the upcoming VMA. She has been named in a long list of nominations for Best Female Video for her song and video Piece Of Me.

According to Popcrunch, it’s not completely impossible to imagine having Britney Spears perform for the VMA 2008 despite a spectacular disaster in 2007. Her performance, as you might well remember, was horrible. She was off in her dancing, looked confused most of the time, and she was obviously lip synching.

Wouldn’t that prevent MTV from grabbing her for a performance again? Absolutely not. Despite the epic failure of “Gimme More” that night, it pulled in over seven million viewers because everyone wanted to see what she would do. The fact that it was such a bad performance means at least that many would tune in to see if she would do it again (”oops, I did it again”, sorry, couldn’t help it!) or if she would overcome everything and do well.

If you add to that the fact that Britney was such a headline grabber during her downward spiral earlier this year, people would be eager to see how she does. Granted, a lot of people are happy to see others fail so a great number would probably gleefully tune in just in the hopes of a repeat, but I would personally love to see her pull of something amazing. That’s why I watched last year, and I’d be hopeful again this year.

MTV president Van Toffler said:

“Who knows? I’m not sure how we top Britney opening the show…..We are working on it every minute of every day. Everyone deserves a second or third chance, right?”

There’s still hope. I would be really happy to see Britney Spears onstage again - if she’s ready for it. What do you think?
